No-exam life insurance

Who qualifies for faster underwriting, the process, and what changes if you don't.

Many insurers now offer accelerated underwriting: for applicants in a certain age and amount range, they approve based on your application, drug history, driving record and other data—no physical required. Results can come back in a day. The quote tool shows which products require exams, which might need one, and which don't.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting doesn't skip underwriting—it changes how it happens. Your answers are verified; a policy issued based on false information can be challenged for two years. If the carrier's information raises flags, they might ask for an exam anyway.

Who tends to qualify

In general, people under age 60 seeking coverage up to the accelerated limit, with a clean health background and no tobacco in the last 12 months. Some carriers also accept recent blood work from a doctor's visit.

When required, an exam is typically a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedic at your home or workplace in the El Cajon area, with no charge. A positive exam result sometimes improves your rate class if you're healthy, which can be advantageous.
